Budget is around 800 dollars. Monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers aren't needed. The computer is mainly for general use, maybe a little gaming here and there. The computer is for my brother. I think he might want to hook up the computer to his hdtv too. That's all, I guess. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking since I do more gaming and he'll actually just use it to browse the web and watch movies, etc. I should give him my old video card and get a new one for myself. I currently have a Radeon 4850 (attached) and a IP35 Pro for my mobo. Also have a Antec TP3-430 watt PSU. Could I slip that 5850 into my computer? And would the 4850 go into his computer?

For me personally, imho, I don't feel that it's right to swap out your old parts and "exchange" it with someone that has something better. If you want to do that, then it's your decision.

If gaming really isn't his primary concern, then you can opt for a HD5770, HD5750, or better off just use something cheap belonging to the low-end bin.

Still want to change?
That will be your GPU as well as the PSU.

Get a low profile HD 5450 for him if he's just gonna use it to surf the web and use it as a HTPC.

It's cheap, uses like no power at all, and is cheap.

Well, my computer isn't that old. A year max and I don't think he would mind and he'll barely do much on the computer. Guess I can slim down on his build and ask him to buy me another GPU, same thing.

Should I just get him that then?

According to the web, HD5770 is on par with the HD4870. HD4870 is faster than HD4850, therefore HD5770 should be faster than HD4850.

Minimum require PSU is 450w

Looks good? I just thought for a little and I don't need a new GPU. Staring to play my 360 again when I get Reach.

The HD5000 series brings in DX11, tessellation, and a new architecture which runs cool and produces less heat.

If your bro does not play any games then a HD5550 up to HD5670 will be plenty for his needs.

Alright, I'll get him a 5670.

That'll work, right?

Also, would he really need a 650w PSU? I know he won't upgrade his computer at all.

Minimum require power for HD5670 is 400w

I prefer more headroom so you can add stuffs later on without worry about PSU requirements.

The 550w is cheaper, but not by a significant amount.

I'll just stick with the 650 then. Thanks for all your help.

Since the build kls gave you was under 800 anyway, I might just suggest getting the 635 c3 instead of the 630, it's a little faster.
