Docky is a really nice docking system (very similar to the Mac).

sudo apt-get install docky

Ninite Linux is a website which allows easy automated installation of multiple applications at the same time, by simply going on the site, selecting the apps and download the single installer. The Linux version of Ninite is very new so there isn't really many applications but there are a few and they will populate soon. Ninite Windows has been out for a while now and has many applications.
