So, I just finished watching V for Vendetta, and a question occoured on my mind.
What is the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter?
Isn't it just which side you're on ? If you're with them, and you're against the current government, then they're freedom fighters, but if you like the current government and someone attacks it, they're terrorists?
Or does it depend on if it's in another country?
Please, share your mind on this :]
~ V for Vendetta isn't really related to this topic.

You're totally right.
V calls himself a freedom fighter, but the government calls him a terrorist.
It's all about which side you choose.

Yea that's what I thought, but then what justifies what is right and what is wrong? In the freedom fighters eyes, the government is wrong, yet they are the people who enforces justice.
How to find out who is right, without taking any side? Is it even possible, because in the end it all matters on opinions, right?

Terrorists attack the population while freedom fighters attack the government.

"Freedom fighters" seek liberation from an often times totalitarian, or at the very least, a very controlling government that takes away the freedoms that they believe shouldn't be, a terrorist on the other hand is someone who uses fear and terror as a weapon, whether through direct action or through something more psychological.

It's thesame. Both freedom fighters and terrorists should get prisoned.

Technically it's the same yes. The people that killed german soldiers in occupied territory during word war 2 would be called terrorists by the germans

Haha, good topic. Fighting is all about seizing power. The enemy can be named anything. They are freedom fighters if they win and they write the history books. They are terrorists if they loose and the government remains the same. The name is just an image that You see in the end. The winner will decide how should they call themselves and the enemy on the long run. There are lots of books about "how to describe the enemy as evil as it is possible and make them monsters in front of Your troops". If they believe they are evil, they will kill them without remorse and boost the morale. This name thing is just one of the few aspects of this tactic.

Thanks for all the replies..
And yea, I found it a quite interesting topic too. It's funny how one is a good thing, and the other is a bad thing, while they're the same.

In V for Vendetta, V never used terror as a weapon. It's the government that feared him, so they called him a terrorist.
On the other hand, it was Adam Sutler himself who was behind the incident at St. Mary's and Three Waters, so it was actually the High Chancellor himself who used fear as his tool to gain power.
Oh the irony.

Basically the thing about bad guys, good guys in T.V. shows.
The bad guy thinks he's doing the right thing, so from his point of view the "good" guys are the bad guys to him.
The good guy thinks the bad guy is doing something bad therefore makes the "bad" guy bad.

Is it even possible, because in the end it all matters on opinions, right? | If we could figure that out, we could end all conflict on our planet. Take religion, every religion claims it's the one true religion, are they really though? Personally I think they all have things in common right, and they all have things wrong. This isn't about that though, that was just to give an example.
