I guess it would rock, but CE FAQ says:

Quote:
Q:When will there be a MAC version?
A:As soon as flying pigs have landed on the frozen plains of hell

I am not sure if DB has changed His mind since then, but if not, we can still do it. If You get the flying pigs, I get the snow. We just need one more guy who will take them to Hell. Then DB will have to fulfill His part of the bargain. Smile

Dark Byte doesn't have the time or resources to get into Mac programming, so if it's going to happen it has to be done by a member of the community with the time, resources and motivation.

And I suppose if someone is that brilliant they can also teach pigs to fly and freeze hell over...

I nominate Noz to do the Linux port.

Although a linux port should not be that hard to do.

It's C/C++ already, Linux comes with a built in compiler in the form of gcc and gpp, Kylix is a Delphi port for Linux. So you could very well see a linux version of CE.

CE is in delphi, but it's not the language that matters. Delphi is just used to call winapi functions, which i think don't work in linux xD

it should be easy to port ce to linux. All windows apis are linked in newkernelhandler.pas which is build up for easy pointer modification.

You can easily write proxy versions of those api's and translate those windows api calls to code in linux that does almost the same and then just set the pointers to the proper functions

ce runs fine using wine in linux. Not sure about the more advanced functions, but at least search, memory view and all the basic things work fine.

If a Linux version of CE is made someone at MacPorts will probably eventually make a Mac version.
