How do I cheat?

Im not shure why but my cheat engine hasn't worked for a year now. I have tried every version. It used to work fine but now it won't. It will find addresses but it wont change it in the game and when something in the game changes it doesn't in cheat engine. Can someone help?

If it's firefox you're hacking, target "plugin-container.exe" and not "firefox.exe".
