| Apparantly this is the list of books I need to get. There are two books in there that I have no clue about why I should have them, I signed up for a programming academy.

action script maybe?
and looks like you got in game programming well maya maybe to make some basic models.

Yeah, the intro said we'd use C++ and the DirectX SDK. Lies!
Anyway, I think we get a bit of both sides (3D Graphics and 3D programming) in the first year.

Usually the first year is more like an introduction, after the first (or second) year, you get to choose what side you want to do.
