|

So I was wondering whats the difference between these processors at (almost) the same clock:
Pentium Dual Core E5400 (2.7GHz)
Core2 Quad Q8400 (2.66GHz)
Core2 Duo E7XXX (2.7GHz)
(Don't actually know the number for the E7XXX)
So what is the difference? Which is better for gaming? For multi processing?

Pentium Dual Core E5400 (2.7GHz)
dual core
Core2 Quad Q8400 (2.66GHz)
this is quad core
Core2 Duo E7XXX (2.7GHz)
better dual core than most
best obvious choice would be the quad core, unless on budget

If you already got a LGA775 mobo like I do, and you're just looking for an upgrade, then get one of those CPUs.
Otherwise, get a newer platform. Although Intel is screwing everybody over by releasing a fuckton different platforms.

I have a PC with an i7, it's just my dad wants a new computer. His is a Pentium 4 @ 3GHz, so upgrading to these would provide a signifigant performance boost without costing too much.

I say go for E5400, is almost half price the E7400, just with less cache, not something you would give a shit for normal computer task ( word processing, watching shit, basic surfing).
i think E5400 have lower TDW also.

Do not count on it. Even though the core 2 quad/duo use the same socket, it may not work. Research the mobo, see if it has a bios update supporting. LGA775 do not always support sadly.

Irrelevant since I will be getting a new mobo too.

Then get one what isn't a LGA775 socket... You can pretty much get an i3 for the same price of a Quad core.
