well when I play warcraft 3 Frozen Throne, i alt tab sometimes to check my google voice inbox, but i thought like if i left the window unfocused the units would still keep moving/building/etc. but apparently not, anyway to fix this?

Pause the game before you Alt+Tab.

I think he wants everything to keep going while minimized.
I'm not sure there is, but you could try running it in windowed mode (check if there's a hotkey like Alt+Enter) and just bringing up a window on top.

If you're in singleplayer the game automatically puts you in menu(F10) thus pausing the game. But if you're in multiplayer games it wont pause if you just alt-tab, you may lag causing you to think you're pausing but you aren't unless another player pauses for you.

You could try forcing it to run in a window using a tool such as DxWnd.

If not, even if you did manage to 'unfocus' it, most games will automaically minimise if the game 'window' is unfocused eg. clicking on another window.
