Hey. I am currently using the latest version of Windows Live Messenger.
As you probably know, at the bottom of the main window there is video ads at the bottom. Also when you're talking to someone, there's a simple text ad at the bottom too.
Is there a way to remove the ads without installing 3rd party software such as A-Patch? I know that I could block the address of the ads using my host file but then the ad just appear blank but the frame is still there taking up useful space...

You can also block them by adding an entry for their IP/DNS in your hosts file.

Lol, I googled...
I know about A Patch and the block ip ways.
I don't want to block IP because the frame of the ad still remains which is a waste of space and I don't want to install patches. It seems like something that should have been removed long ago using Resource Hacker or something...

The way I see it, if you have Windows Live software installed in lieu of something more versatile/lightweight or less intrusive (granted I'm not sure filesharing would work correctly), installing something like A-Patch wouldn't be a big deal.
Then again, I would also think that people would have been doing this manually for some time and I can't find any instruction as to how.
