Let SUN running with it active and when I came home it was fine. Went back out and came back after an hour and found this

Probably went sitting idle for 3 hours tops. What causes this? I changed the w7 recovery times already and it had stopped problems in the past. Should I just ignore it untill it happens again?

The 10.5 were broken. I'm on 10.4 and it was fine till earlier. New drivers only help with 5000 series. This is a 4850.

Next time include your graphics card model ;]

Also uninstall all traces of your drivers, and install 10.6 (this version has better non-windows OS support)

Obviously been done before. 10.6 do not improve on anything besides stuff for games I do not own. It could be the GPU just over heated and crashed. Could be something else. Twas never an issue till I hit w7.

I have a 4850, and windows 7 never had a GSOD, seems to be either problem with PSU,HDD, or the GPU

Could apply to your problem but I am guessing you haven't even check out google.

I bet you I have. Any searches with grey screen of death result for 5000 series. Trust me, I wouldn't even bother to post here if google helped me.

Nice fail BTW. Post is about a XFX 5850, not a 4850. Check your eyes.

Dear god, go away, you are of no help. The world already knows GSOD is a malfunction with the 5000 series. It on 4850 is the classic cause from VPU.

we have discussed the classic gsod. This is probably it. In which case its a VPU recover error. Un-handled properly.

I am posting for a solution. Many many people use a 4850 to this day. You're the moron. You have only posted shit for a different series. I guess you missed out on numbers in preschool.

What solution when there isn't any problem?
is just a GSOD, not Fermi burning your house down.

This is a majorly common issue with the card you have. The results from what I've read in the past were both due to BIOS issues, as well as driver issues.

I would suggest looking into ensuring your motherboards bios is up to date with the latest from its manufacture (or from the systems publisher if you have a Dell, Gateway, etc. and they have home-brewed drivers etc.) as well as ensuring your card is updated.

You may want to boot in safe mode and fully uninstall all drivers using tools like 'Driver Cleaner Professional' to ensure all files are properly and fully removed before installing new drivers since conflicts could occur.

As you said though, "should I ignore it til it happens again". I would suggest yes. If it's not constantly happening, don't fix what isn't broken. If it becomes a problem. I would suggest looking into what I've said above though.
