But would have no idea where to start. Would someone be able to throw a couple of ideas at me? I'm a gamer, not really hardcore though, and all I've done is consoled and played WoW so I only have a vague idea about this stuff. The video card will definitely be nVidia, just because I'm familiar with it. A budget of under 1000$aud is sure. Current monitor would be used, same as keyboard and mouse. Preferably atleast good enough to run shattered horizon, and run things like tf2 smoothly.

Lets start from the middle and work your way out. Intel or Amd? Once you have established budget vs likes, you may begin. AMD is more bang for your buck, but intels more expensive CPU are the best. After you figure that out pic the cpu that first your budget. Then find the motherboard to match that meets your needs. Do you want crossfire? How much ram do you want? Can the bios OC? Then the only other hard part is picking out a decent PSU.

Start with a nice case with a nice PSU and maybe even with a motherboard and fans. Then your work will be cut down by a lot. Also, don't go for the i7 processor unless you actually need it. As long as its not AMD I find dual core to be fine.

The case is the last thing you need to think about. A nice looking case is not going to make your pc any better.

But you can't do anything else without a case first...also I wasn't talking about nice as in looking good I meant one that has good features. Look for at least a 500w power supply if you plan on not having integrated graphics, 650w if you want to SLI.

Open air is just retarded. That would lessen the life expectancy of your computer by a lot.

People can use a damn piece of wood, screw it on, and be done. The case is the last thing to worry about. he will probably use a micro or regular ATX anyway so most cases fit both.

Thats if you don't have the money though. The case is definitely necessary, who wants all those guts on their floor.

Liquid nitrogen cooling wannabe.
vantage PC that the case will end up worth more than the build itself.

I mean you can at least take everything out of an old case and use that.
