It's no longer possible. It's so strange, how could 4 gb's of memory that costed $55 just 8 months ago cost 110 now? Has memory become more costly to manufacture? Or are the companies simply shooting up their prices like the oil companies, just because they can and nobody can tell them no?

RAM prices have inflated exactly 200% in the last 8 months. I am sorry, /Compter Talk/. This is not right.

if one does it, everyone do it. Following Supply and Demand law, and funding for research labs, etc...

Yeah it's gotten pretty ridiculous lately. Specially here in Australia.

Less than a month ago I bought 4gb of DDR2 ram for $150, and it was the cheapest they had.

It's pathetic.

If it were that simple, the FCC or somebody would be all over it. Basically, manufacturers flooded the market a while back and prices dropped way low (probably often lower than manufacture price). My understanding is that the price is starting to level out to where it should be and should probably have been.
Not a huge deal; save a little more allowance for your builds.

I forgot exactly what happened but something happened to some company and their flow of products was damaged then others shit themselves even though there was no risk of shortage at all in reality.

I'm also guessing that they're putting the prices up to cover the huge loss in profits they made because very few people can afford new machines with 12GB of triple-channel DDR3 or whatnot due to the still-running effects of the recession.

That, and some retards in the stock market got given a bad tip that copper mines were nearly dry and they wouldn't make up the demand this year, and they believed it. This is why trained monkey salesmen shouldn't be allowed to run our economy.
