Hey :0
I got a bit of a problem here.
I weigh in at about 180-185pounds, 5ft11in tall, and I usually have a good deal of muscle. I don't look "fat" though. Anyways, I maintained my body through natural exercises which I stopped doing about half a year ago and now I'm disappointed. While I still have muscle mass, i'm noticing fat that wasn't there before.
I can control what I eat perfectly, but I'm not really the gym type of person. I will start my normal exercise routine that I had half a year ago, and I know this will get me back to the body that I want, but I'm also planning on taking on swimming since summer is coming and what better way to cool off in miami than in a pool <3. I might as well pick up another routine that's fun along the way; swimmings my best option.
Anyways, I got some odd/stupid questions regarding swimming in general.
-1) About how long can a good swim be to have some good effects on body? Whether it's weight loss or just muscle toning, about how long should one swim a day to feel some form of change and from personal experience, can you say what the long term effects of such swimming routines were on your body?
-2) Between swimming underwater and on surface, which is best for the above question?
-3) Ok, this is a personal question that stems from my childish stupidity. Do swimming flipper things make any difference? Am I better off without them? I don't want to get in a pool just to get my body back to it's norm. Only asking because I enjoy swimming fast underwater and the last time I wore a pair of these it was just godlike <3, but i don't want this to get in my immediate goals.
Additional Details
Forgot something;
I'm 19, 180-185pounds, and 5ft 11inches tall.
If it helps, i'm a mesomorph o.o
Thanks in advance.
-VR

this.
Also, you should workout a little before going swimming and eat something with protein before and after (gives you strength and helps build muscle after work out). (Also bring a water bottle, because your body will feel dehydrated even if you're swimming) If you don't swim on a regular basis, 1 hour sessions, 3 times per week should suffice for now, then you can move up to 1 hour and a half, then 2 etc.
A good exercise is to time yourself between laps, to kind of motivate yourself. usually there is a clock on the wall for you to use.
For you I don't recommend swimming underwater yet because you'd have to hold your breath which would make you tired much quicker and you'd be done within a half hour. Don't use flippers, just swim normally, and make sure you know how to swim properly. Or else you'll get some poor results.
Swimming will help you lose weight, builds leg muscles as you're constantly using them. Overall improve your health, but if you want more upper arm muscle, you'll have to work out before you swim, at least 30 mins.

I'm somewhat of a self conscious bastard who doesn't enjoy looking fat. I've had a good somewhat muscular(not an "i live in a gym" muscular look but definitely not fat) appearance for the past couple of years and I've been happy with it, however I stopped doing my regular routines about 6months ago and now I'm starting to get unwanted fat. I'm seeking to regain my muscle tone.
i got a pool, i know swimming helps muscle tone, and so i'm making use of my pool this summer ( '-').
One way or another, I'm getting back to a size 32 pants. >=0
currently reaching size 34 (.____.)
Edit:
32 be goal. was looking at leg length which is 30. fail is me.

| If you want some quick muscle building then I suggest buying protein shakes and drinking one before and after your workout, you'll notice your body getting toned within a week (Works super well if you do push ups and lift a few sets of dumbbells.

lolproteinshakes.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't stand those things. And I'm not looking for muscle building exercises. I dislike the disgusting look of having too much muscle.

Although I've no expert on this subject I would try swimming like 100 laps in an hour, and then each day try to gradually increase the amount of laps in the given time. (100 per hour was a random guess)
-2) Between swimming underwater and on surface, which is best for the above question?
I would imagine swimming underwater would help build lung capacity.
-3) Ok, this is a personal question that stems from my childish stupidity. Do swimming flipper things make any difference? Am I better off without them?
The make you go faster with less effort. So if you did choose to go with them, then I would try going for longer distances than you were capable of without.

100 laps for him would be near impossible. He'd be tired after around 5 or 6 without stopping. It takes around 22 seconds for a professional swimmer to do 1 lap. That's about 35 minutes for 100 laps, without stopping once, going at full forces.
I just suggest you swim until you feel extremely tired, and I suggest you don't swim underwater for now because it would drain a lot of your energy really fast.

Dont just do one exercise, You body will get used to doing the same routine, and wont cause any growth. You need to mix up you're exercises and reps.
