Not sure if there has been a thread on it, but just seeing all the 'Abortion SA' posters around made me wonder.

Do you believe women should have the right to abort?

I'm all for it, but I put this question to all people who are against it:
If a woman was raped, should they still have the baby? Suffer through the agony of childbirth whether or not it's their own?
If you answered yes, if it was you would your answer change?

I really think that it should be up to the woman. If she really wants to have a child, even if she puts it up for adoption, it should still be her choice.

Depends, not if it's just like 2 months before giving birth. But in early stages of pregnancy I think it should be up to the woman, yes.

The point being whether it's murder or not, right? If you get down to it, what makes us human is our consciousness. A fetus does not posses any form of consciousness yet, not like we experience it anyway though. So can it really be considered human? No. And if it isn't human, it doesn't have human rights. And if it doesn't have human rights, it may be killed humanly if it has an adverse affect on another human being.

In short, it's up to the female carrying the fetus. Because if removing a fetus is murder, then so is their period.

I spent most of year 9-11 arguing this topic in Religious education. Personally it depends on when you think life starts, some people feel it is at conception and others when the baby is born. Although there is a slightly disturbing video (The silent scream) of an abortion where the fetus moves away from the instruments and opens its mouth to let out a scream.

I agree with Ani, I feel that no one should be able to specify whether it's right or wrong except for the mother, and no one should be able to judge them on their choice.

It's an old video. If you want to skip to 14 minuets that's when the abortion starts, all the stuff before it just explains about ultra-sound and how abortions are preformed. To be honest, we never saw this in RE our teacher just mentioned it, but watching it now it is a lot more moving that i thought it would be.

But i do still fell that the woman has a choice (Under circumstances such as the mother will die giving birth or the child was conceived through rape)
