Well, in the CCC, in the overclock part of it, you can also control the fans power. My stuff was all lagging weirder than usual in street fighter 4, so I figured upping the fan speed may help it stay cooler (obviously). But how save is it? Will it use much more power?

Well in the passed my options for it were to just to make it turn off turn on always or crank at a certain temp. This actually gives me th ability to crank its speed. I also tried ati auto tune. Utter crap it is. Heated my shit up to 50c and set it to 690mhz. Not worth it.

the only thing you risk is the obvious, wearing out the fan faster

50c is nothing

It never even gets to 50c. Playing street fighter 4 it gets maybe 48 tops at load. But the fps started acting up. I guess it's just online lag. The benchmark seems to be working fine with AA/AF 8x

So why set the fan higher?

Because I can. Its actually not setting it up, its manual. It usually changes its power by sensor detection of heat i guess. Setting it up on manual would just make it constantly run at that speed.

Are you like using headphones or have your stereo turn all the way to max?
No way 100% is bearable.

This-- I actually regret choosing a larger video card in my desktop for the noise (small room). I don't play games really (little Cube 2), so I use my netbook and one of the old (circa Windows 2000) Optiplex computers I leave running as a server.

My pc is standing 30cm next to my bed. If I turn my fan to a 100% I can easily sleep through it. It's really silent.

fuck that shit 100% is pretty much equivalent to a hair dryer on low for my gtx 260. it's kind of ridiculous how fast the fan noise ramps up past 70.
