If you have another partition you just install to that partition.

Yes you can run setup.exe from within XP, and just pick the drive/partition to use.

W7 requires 4 separate partitions in order to install. You need one with a previous Windows operating system, one with the Windows 7 disc, and two to buffer out the massive memory surges caused by the installation. Also, if you want your installation to go faster, place your disc that contains W7 on a towel (shiny side down), and put five ice cubes on the top of the disc and let them melt. Once they are all melted, dry the top of the disc and put it in the drive.
