Either I'm using it horribly wrong or it is just very very broken.
If i do a search for a string and then use the pointerscanner to search for the address the string is on, it asks me where i want to save the file. If i specify a file that doesn't exist yet it starts scanning and then comes up with an error saying:
| Code: | | Error during scan: StaticScanner:Cannot create file "". The system cannot find the path specified |
Unless I'm mistaken isn't it supposed to create that file instead of trying to open/use it? When i click the "ok" button it comes up with the error again and then the pointerscanner gives up. When I do another scan using the same filename it scans just fine.
However, when I go back to the main window and do a search after using the pointerscanner, it comes up with:

and refuses to scan. CE is only using 90mb memory.
Closing the pointerscan window doesn't seem to fix anything, I need to restart CE to fix it.
I think I was getting random errors yesterday when re-doing pointerscans but I cant seem to reproduce that now.
Using vista x64 ultimate
Am I doing something wrong or what?..

| if you are creating a file in program files make sure you run as admin ? that's all i can think of

Is the target a big process or a small one ?
That you get filename problems after a pointerscan is understandable, but before the first time is weird. You sure you didn't do a previous scan? (or an unknown initial value scan on a game that has 1.5GB ram)
And seeing your ip I doubt you're japanese/chinese using a special systemwide hook that emulates keypresses for you...
anyhow, try downloading this special version of ce. It allocates memory in bigger manageable blocks, so should cut down on the memory fragmentation, but also eats up more ram
http://cheatengine.org/temp/cheatengineAlloc2.rar
just place it in the cheat engine folder (c:\program files (x86)\cheat engine 5.6\ ) and run that one

Trying it on a small process, it has 70mb of ram, and i'm using a regular english vista with no special input or anything.
Still get the Scan error:thread 0:Out of memory when i click 'first scan' after doing a pointerscan with that new executable.
starting the pointerscanning by doing a scan for a text, putting the found address in the list, right clicking on the address and doing "Pointer scan for this address", not changing anything in there and then starting it.
I don't seem to get any file issues anymore though (bit weird assuming you didnt change anything regarding that)
I have 2gb of ram so i doubt its actually running out of ram in any way with a small pointerscan, maybe the error is wrong somehow?

always close the pointerscan window before doing a new scan, only then is the allocated memory freed
also, 2GB isn't that much(max of only one process taking up it's full potential), I take it you haven't disabled your pagefile ?

Indeed i haven't, it's auto-set on 2.5gb or so.
I know 2gb of ram isnt an awful lot but I doubt its not enough for a pointerscan on a 90mb process with 4 results..
Even if i close the pointerscan window i still get the same error, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

| Just for information, how do you really use pointerscan ??? Because when I try it, it find thousand of possible address... So it's easier to search by myself...

after it's done you reboot your computer (restarting the game/reloading a savegame works too, but rebooting is more effective) and then do a rescan (easiest is a rescan for the value)
Repeat that a couple of times and eventually you'll be a left with a list of pointers that's almost always valid
Then just pick one for in your cheat table and use it or make a trainer

I cant find anything wrong with the code, perhaps the compiler is having a small problem keeping the memory in proper locations.
Anyhow, seeing you run x64 windows, try downloading this:

I really don't recommend using this for full time gamehacking, but the pointerscanner is working for the most part
reset your ce settings if you get a lot of errors
