I feel bad for the people who lost family members. I just don't care enough to go out of my time to help them. It's not like if we have a natural disaster they'd help us.

Go live your life by that logic. See how much help you get when you need it. Someone has to step up and do the first act of helping for the others to recognize it, by your logic, no one would ever help anyone because they wouldn't think the others would help them back.
