Im pretty sure, 90s is known because of the pop songs. Correct me if im wrong, i've never liked Rock that much.

You realise those bands listen to modern music and most support a few up and coming bands. There was a lot of shit music pre-2000 with some good bands, it's the same today. Get over yourselves.

He's talking about the mainstream. When the New Yardbirds (Led Zeppelin) were just getting together, they were approached by Atlantic Records with an advance of two hundred grand, and ability to set up their own tours and record releases, with complete control over the content.
That was a new sound at the time. The point is, record companies don't do this anymore -- they'd much rather back the sounds that will make them money, the ALREADY mainstream sounds. That is why most of the mainstream companies allow music to stagnate. It makes them money NOW, they don't even have to think about the current stunted evolution of music style.
