So far I've just traced a reference image added 'hair' and done some shadows.
Want some advice on the style I should incorporate for it.
*I was thinking rockfield-esque (look up rockfield on dA)

Holy shit I was totally doing a similar thing. I'm doing that but with Hayley Williams from Paramore and with non-vector effects. Rockfield was telling me how he did it (not really a special way, just a lot of time put into it) and I thought I may aswell.

Too boring to be fairly honest. You should base it on a REAL person rather than an already vectorised person.
