How do I cheat?

Ok i was trying to use cheat engine like any other day so i tried entering my value when it scanned it came up with a bunch of random numbers i payed no mind then i enter in the next value to filter them out did not work nothing changed so i tried a different game same thing again then i tried the using the hex button to do something else but i came up with random letters instead, then i tried uninstalling and reinstalling guess what still does the same thing please help
