What I will use it for:

Online gaming (Flash games mainly)
Programming (Flash(AS3))
Overall internet browsing

What I want:

Something fast and lag free, doesn't have to be the best but I would like an epic deal (holiday time). Doesn't have to have a HUGE HDD, I had an Acer laptop with 120 GB HDD and I only used probably about 7-8 gigs at the most. Also a great monitor to go with it, it doesn't have to be HD or 1080P, just like a normal monitor that is at least 16 inches.

Price range is $325 or less, I'll be getting more money soon so I will have a total and update this thread. I want to get my parents something nice for Christmas so I am not going to spend all my money no matter how bad I want another PC.

Oh and does anyone know if that BestBuy deal about the $197 HP laptop (has Windows 7) on Black Friday is good?

Security:

What is the best free security software that covers all virus types so to speak that can be upgraded to a full version such as AVG?

I am not asking for help on how to fix my laptop, otherwise the title would have been different. I am asking what is the best deal I can get within a price range of $250-$300. Anyways I don't know how to replace hardware for I am not that savvy with computers, and I don't want to mess it up further. Plus Vista was pre-installed for I have a machine built laptop, not hand carved.

If you're going to spend that little, you ought to get a netbook.

I think he mistakenly took CPU to mean laptop somehow.

Updated the thread. Also Elpacco, I don't want another laptop, I am not that incompetent to not be able to tell the difference between the two.

Reformatting a hard drive and reinstalling windows doesn't involve any hardware removal...

That obviously shows anyone how unexperienced I am with this type of issue, therefore I cannot do it as I said I couldn't, thanks for proving my point.

Yea he got confused, you should say computer, instead of CPU that means Central Processing Unit. Anyway yea with 325$ the most your gonna get is a net book or a really bad laptop or desktop. So i suggest to fix your current comp or save up more.

So you are asking for a processor?

Kind of an odd price range for a processor, especially for an Intel Core 2 Duo.

It's obvious that he probably now knows the term "CPU" is not the whole computer.

If you can pop in an install CD and click a few buttons you can easily reformat and install a fresh operating system. It's not brain surgery.
