Return my iPod Touch 2g 8gb and get a 16gb?

Apparently, I can't jailbreak this because the part number is MC, which is classified as a '3g'. Like an updated 2g, or whatever.

I saw that the 2g 16gb was the same price as the 3g 8gb, $199?

So can I go to the Apple store and get an older version or no?
