Sounds like a pretty noob question, but I had to ask.

If saving a file as a JPEG decreases the quality, why are so many renders and other art saved as .jpeg's?

JPEG haves lots of compressions, its mostly because the balance of quality and size. a TGA of 30MB would easily fit i a 300kb JPG

Absolutely no renders are saved as .jpg, unless it's someone's first and they don't know what they're doing.

You won't find any decent artwork as a .jpg.

previews of renders are saved as jpg because of easy acess to customers.
