Let me first say that I'm a complete idiot in maths. I know that I could work on my maths but do you think it's even worth trying to get into programming at this stage. I'm 15 and I've got a career pathways interview tomorrow and I'm wondering if its worth me mentioning programming.
Eventually I want to go into the Game Development side of programming which is rumored to me the most challenging. Just tell me what you would do if you were in my position?.
Computer systems analyst is my backup plan.

if you are thinking of studying a computer science type course that involves programming then it is not necessary to have a programming background on application. in fact many people have never touched programming when they enter the course
if programming is not a strong point for you then i would concentrate on other general skills like maths, logic, reading up on areas of interest, for example picking up knowledge on computer architecture, etc. etc. since you are interested in game development maybe you could read up the theory on their development and maybe try out some simple things if they interest you but i wouldn't attempt making a really decent full blown game at this stage, it is not particularly beneficial considering the alternatives of what you could do with your time
as long as you do not have a major problem with programming concepts and picking them up then once you hit uni the speed and scope of the content covered does not even compare with anything you could do
in fact, interviewers for this type of subject are not looking for honed programmers that have been programming from the age of 11 and think they know everything about X language. they are looking for academic learning potential, a genuine passion and interest for the subject and yes, maths is very important
ps. i find those career pathways things pretty useless. well at least all the ones i went to when i was younger were pretty useless

yeah, because computer science is NOT programming.

Learn linear algebra.

The math for 2d games is undoubtedly simpler and a typical tile based engine is pretty simple to work out. This would probably be a good start.
DX is pretty simple to get up and running if you have some basic understanding of programing. The ID3DXSPRITE interface is dead simple to use if you want to do 2D stuff and it handles a ton of shit behind the scenes for you, like setting up the vertex and index buffer, handling sorting, transformation to screen space, etc. Not to mention it's FAST, unlike typical rumors of it.

i study computer science at one of the best universities in the world for that subject and i can tell you that it is not required. they say it on the website for potential applicants, they say it on your interview day, they say it when you start the course. every other university i applied for said the exact same thing as well including other top ones like cambridge, etc.

programming is a core component in most computer science courses. regardless, even if he studies some other course, if the course content covers programming then it will not be a prerequisite that he has already done programming in the past which is what i explained
since he intends to do game programming..

Prerequisites for Computer Graphics are Mathematical Studies.
Computing and Digital Design has no Prerequisites but Assumed knowledge of Mathematical Studies. I cant seem to find any programming related courses.
