So I watched the first episode and for some reason I can't help but dislike Light. He already seems like he should be a twisted super-villain. Yeah, he kills criminals, but he also wants to kill people who are an annoyance to society. Where is the line drawn? The guy who sells fake DVDs on the market? The noisy neighbours from next door? The kids that litter in the streets? I really like the idea of the whole thing, and the animation is flawless, but if I don't like the main character there's not much point watching. I'm about to watch the second epsiode, so hopefully it'll make me like him more. Otherwise it'll be a waste of a damn good anime.

Can anyone shed some light (without spoilers) on if he becomes a little more moral later on?

If you don't like him in the first episode he only gets worse.
