if I connect my ipod to a different computer and try to transfer songs to it will all of my songs that are already on my ipod get deleted or will the music just get added?

You can add songs into your iPod on any computer.The songs in your iPod should be safe unless you press the 'sync' button, which will synchronize your iPod with the computer. The computer gets priority, and anything in your iPod that's not in the computer will get deleted.

Transferring songs from the iPod into your PC is a lot more difficult on any computer, whether it's your original one or any other. Use other third-party softwares to achieve this (Google it).

FYI, you can enable disk usage for your iPod to manually transfer songs from computers. (:
