my moms laptop has been "broken" for about a week.
she presses the on button and nothing hapends.
she plugs it in and she has power and still nothing.
do you think the key is broken??
(the key that turns it on)

Does anything actually turn on?
Can you hear anything inside running?
Does the monitor turn on?
Does any lights work?

Maybe the hard drive died (in which case you're screwed).

Remove battery and see if it turns on with just the power adapter.
