Well my aunts desktop suddenly started majorly slowing down and now it says her windows isn't genuine. I turned off and deleted the tray launcher so it cant run it anymore, but im not sure whats wrong with it. Nothing comes up on the AV. I dont think windows black lists xp keys either o.O

Anyone know whats going on or why it started saying not genuine?

Maybe she bought a stolen CD key or something. Ask her where she got her copy of windows from.

I know its stolen. But since when does microsoft blacklist? I installed this on 3 pcs and this is the first time its happened. Others are fine.

If you want you could try reformatting and reinstall windows
or you could find the thing that cancel's out those messages.

Not sure this will help, but an update that automatically installed itself is called Windows Genuine Advantage Notification.
It basically pops up when ever you boot up.
Is this what you have?

Microsoft aren't gonna do anything about it.

If they do, just say you thought it was a real CD, I think I read somewhere someone said that and they got compensation.

I once ran with an illegal version of Windows XP.
Meaning serveral people using the same key -> That resulted in a shutdown to me from microsofts side.

I accidentally installed one of their automatic updates. Next time I tried to turn on my PC, it was dead. If this is what happens to you, only way is to re-format everything.

when you get it open again you can also reinstall windows/change the key after blocking the update address in your firewall to stop it checking if its legit this option lets you update and it wont lock your comp down

i did it for Microsoft office and photo shop, i now have both updated to the latest versions and it cannot detect they have iligit keys as i firewall block the update addresses,

if you dont want to format your pc, when it opens up and you see a little underscore to the top left press F8 and go to system restore, this will let you restore from bootup without using the operating system, change it back to prior the update/date it was blocked and grab the update addy from the net

if you cant find the address for it, simply don't install the update until you can find the address.

And they do it VERY VERY little
So you're unlucky...
Dude... Just go buy your own not pirated version...
Its only 100 dollars for home premium versions
