Recently a friend of mine had his Xbox Live Gold account stolen. I'm sure this is not an unusual thing, but I was wondering how this would have happened in the first place and how to prevent it from happening again. As far as I know, he did not willingly give out his password to anyone, nor did he follow any of the youtube account scams. I was thinking a keylogger, but he does not use Windows Live Messenger. Any thoughts? _________________
Phishing webs?
Does he have the same password as other accounts?
Its possible someone knew his password and tried his Xbox account. (Anything the admin could have checked his password out, etc). _________________
1. He gave out his password somewhere. This happens most often.
Sometimes people think places are legit, while they're in no way legit.
Like for example, perhaps he logged into a site that looks up his rankings/etc.. ? Those are often phishers (passwordstealers).
2. He has been keylogged and uses the password on several places.
3. He used an easy password (identical to his name, 123, things like that), and someone guessed it. _________________
