I'm getting a new laptop. Dell screwed up the order my original XPS m1530 is now a like m1600 I think. We got s lot of free upgrades though I apparently have vista 64 bit on it (I wanted XP I hate vista) When my current CPU has 32 bit. What exactly is so different?

64bit supports ram over 4GB and Vista is a great OS, you really need to experience it for yourself instead of hearing BS stories from those that are too stupid to use a computer.

Let XP DIE! Seriously!

The last bit is funny considering that MS will cut support to Vista before XP.

Guess I should have included the "consumer" bit.

Microsoft provides support in two phases: "Mainstream" and "extended".

For consumer editions of Vista (Home basic, Home premium), mainstream support extends to November 2011 however extended support won't be provided. With Business, Ultimate and Enterprise editions, mainstream support will be provided until the same date however extended support will last until 2016.

In November 2007, when Microsoft realized how relatively few users were transitioning to Vista, they officially extended extended support for all versions of XP through April 2014, slightly more than 2 years after support for consumer editions of Vista is cut off.

And also, Microsoft even admitted that Vista was a fail project, that's why they started working on Windows 7 and left Vista.

Looking at the comments, most of them disagree with that author.

Well, I was talking about Microsoft literally coming out and saying: "Vista was a fail project."

Vista is a much better OS than XP SP3. On older systems, such as a single core with 512 MB RAM, I can see how XP is better. However, from what I've read:

1. Vista is a good OS, but Microsoft rushed the release. When it came out, Vista had bugs, problems, etc. but Service pack 1 fixed most of those problems. Service pack 2, which came out a few weeks (months?) ago, supposedly fixed 99% of the problems.

2. If you read some other articles of his, I'll pull out some quotes:

Quote:
So, what are you going to do? I recommend giving desktop Linux or the Mac a serious look. Vista, whether you call it Vista SP2 or Windows 7, is a dead-end operating system.

(Got bored of looking for stupid quotes.)

3. If you go here, in all his articles he unobjectively praises Mac + Linux.

Not trying to start a fight or anything, nor a flame war. I'm not saying that Windows is a superior or good OS or anything, what I'm just saying is that author (in my eyes) is an idiot and Microsoft never came out and said: "Vista sucks."
