Well, I recently reformatted my friend's computer.
I cannot connect to the internet because the local network connection is 'unplugged'. Clearly it's not ...cause it is plugged in?

After some searching around for a good hour, I concluded that the problem was the network driver was missing.

I can't find the network driver setup for '3com etherlink xl 10/100 pci tx nic (3c905b-tx) version 2.16.0.0'

The most up-to-date driver for that (very old ..) is 5.4 but he has 2.16.0.0. Although I wish to update it, I cannot due to no internet connectivity.

why don't you just download the drivers, put it on a usb, install on the other computer?

Just download the latest driver and use it. The product is discontinued which is why the drivers are so old, but they should still work fine.
