I have the m15x and this new one is kick ass >.>
mine was pretty good when I bough it but things changed and now the m17x I think is the best laptop and the price is something not to worry about, its starts in a bit more of 1000$ and can customize it

Since you do have $1600 to waste on a laptop, this one should be considerably better than that overpriced XPS. The only area where it falls behind the XPS is with the Blu-Ray drive. In terms of graphics performance, it beats the XPS by a factor of 4 in Crysis. The CPU is obviously superior, although the performance improvement is not as apparent as the GPU's superiority. It's even cheaper than your XPS, and with the money saved, you could get yourself a Blu-Ray burner or an external reader.

That BluRay drive is 5.25" form factor, I'm farely certain those laptops won't support 5.25". External is probably your only choice for blu ray from newegg...

Had to choose "ok" simply because you could get a much, much more powerful desktop for the same price (i7 920, HD4870x2, 3-6GB DDR3, 650W PSU, 1TB WD caviar or 300GB raptor, kick ass monitor, etc), however for a laptop I suppose it's alright.
Think of it this way: Laptops made desktops obsolete in the same way handguns made rifles obsolete. A handgun's generally more portable, controllable and, sure, it'll get the job done, however it won't be nearly as powerful as a similarly priced rifle (given it's chambered in, you know, a rifle cartridge, such as .308 or .30-06 or something), however being heavier and less portable.
