Look at this, a 4870 thats only 124 dollars. O_O

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131140

any idea why its so cheap? I mean compared to the other companys that are 20+ more dollars. Im thinking of buying it, im just worried i really never heard of power color.

IIRC, AMD/ATI pushed the prices (MSRP) down to $135 for the HD 4870.

Newegg's supply and demand pricing system justifies the price, I think. After the Powercolor gets more sales (possibly their product underperforms or was too expensive), they might move the prices back up and the prices of the other ones down if they lose sales.

Well here are a couple cards to consider within your price range:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133270 - Does preform a tad bit better than the 4870, also I prefer nvidia.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125256
Cheaper price.

Of course the prices are after MIRS, if you're fine with that.

Yea I know I prefer nvidia too, its just I been wanting to give ati a chance. From what I heard nvidia performs better for mid range graphical gaming but when it comes to higher resolutions, anti-aliasing and things of the sort, ATI performs better. Which I like my games to look shiny lol, but also the fact money is sort of tight and the 4870's are cheaper. How much does the GTX 260 216 out perform the 4870?

Just a bit, enough to justify a price of about $150 compared to a $140 HD 4870. I'd have to argue it's at most, 10% faster, depending on the game. Check the benchmarks for the specific games you want to play.

As far as vendors go, PNY and BFG Tech are just about the worst on NVIDIA's side. XFX and EVGA offer the best warranties (XFX has a double lifetime warranty; EVGA has a single lifetime warranty), but EVGA offers better software support (EVGA Precision and other helpful tools). They also give you Cryostasis for free with the GTX 260, which utilizes PhysX.

The only ATi vendor to offer a lifetime warranty is XFX. All the other ones are just a few years. But I doubt you'd keep a graphics card more than a few years, which is why XFX's double lifetime warranty is good for selling off your graphics card later on.

Uhh not really the main point, but if you actually read it, there are two different cards. Would you pay 20 bucks for just a little performance increase that you don't need? No, and its my money so I can worry all I want. I'm deciding if its worth paying the extra money for that little bump in performance. Rolling Eyes

On an average the GTX 260 core 216 preforms a bit better than the 4870, not a huge difference though.
Now, the 4870 is a little faster than the GTX 260 with 192 steam processors.
It's up to you, really. Although the 4870 that I linked doesn't have the best reviews.

Thats strange because I have had both types of cards and I like catalyst control center, its very simple to use and has overclocking built into it. Then again some sub companies like EVGA has precision so i don't know.

I guess ill just look at some benchmarks and things and pick one.

GTX 260 is abit better, but about the software nvidia got:
- PhysicX
- Non crashing software
- working well for both 64bit and 32bit

Catalyst:
- For some it crashes sometimes for no reason
- Doesn't work good on 64bit for many.

I've had my NVidia drivers go up in flames a few times to the point where it crashed my computer instead of managing to just restart the display driver (in L4D, every time) on my GTX 260.

Meanwhile my last system ran an ATI card (x1900) for 3+ years without ever crashing once in a display related manner and my buddies computer that I built a few months ago has been rock solid on Vista 64 since day one with his 4850.

PS physx is a horrible gimmick and an equally horrible physics engine.
