Firstly, Don't Speak With All Caps, makes it easier to read.
There are no 'proper' viruses, linux's security is pretty good.
There are, however, many malicious commands you can run.
I.E

rm -rf .
rm -rf * |

This is obviously not an educated statement, no offence.
There are exploits in Linux, there are exploits in programs. Also, the reason for no viruses on Linux, or just a decreased amount... is for the following reasons:
1) Hackers are smart enough to target windows OS computers, who hold the majority of the computers in the world.
2) Almost all programs in Linux are open-source, and it is hard to release a program with a virus on it that is open-source, since the virus will be found immediately.
Linux actually has poor security if you do not configure it well.
The only part the above person was correct about is you will most likely not run into any viruses when you use Linux. Though your choice of distro (ubuntu) is a bad one.

I'm sorry for my above statement, I lent my friend my account and he's not the smartest person.
Now to correct my friend
Linux is not virus free, windows is mainly targeted.
Most software is open source, hard to release a virus.
Linux users are usually smarter than windows/mac users...
Exploits(I believe) are easier to find, due to the open nature of most linux distros.
