Recently, my family computer has been acting up............... a lot..........
we have vista ultimate 64bit and when ever the screen goes off or hibernation, it thinks it is off. Move mouse, hold shut down button, even flicked the switch, pulled out the plug........ EVERYTHING............. it never shuts down....................... when it eventually turns off, i check event viewer, found 607 errors all recorded on the days it happens...........
Anyone else having this problem with Vista Ultimate 64bit?

Uhh, to me that sounds like a virus, try booting into safe mode or normal mode and run a malware/virus scan. I mean 607 errors?! Thats my guess anyway.

It's not a virus, but a vista glitch.
You will need to request the patch.
Vista hibernation request page
If I were you, I'll use the sleep mode.

hi5.
Hibernation is a waste of time in my opinion, you'd just want to turn the computer off.
Sleep is faster, and it keeps the system at a low power state as well.

what is the point of hibernation? all it does is save your stuff to the disk, and then when you turn back on it just restores it? stand by does that. The only way i would think of wanting to do that for would be if i knew the power would be going out, and was going to hack a game with dynamic addresses and it took me 5 hours to get to where i am and if i restart the game it will ruin the work...
thats the only scenario i can think of *.* i just shut my PC of, when i put my other pc on standby a lot it seemed to... mess it up. make it slower. etc etc.

it's not as useless as you think. i always use it on my laptop because it takes ages to boot up normally, and sometimes i like having things there that i'll need next time. stand by wastes more power, i use hibernation as an alternate to powering off. just because it doesn't suit you, doesn't mean it won't suit others.
