recently I upgraded my RAM in my laptop from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB
when i originally bought my laptop (1 and a half years ago)
I had 2 slots:
512 MB
512 MB
now when I changed my RAM I got 2 GB and I only used one slot:
2 GB
empty slot
the manufacturer (TOSHIBA) says not to do that but my laptop worked after doing it so I thought it wouldn't cause any harm.
now my problem is that when I play a game like Combat arms or Maplestory or w/e after an hour or so my laptop gets really hot and crashes. (just turns off) after 20 minutes I can turn it back on and the same thing happens every time. I tried putting back my 2 512 MB sticks but it didnt help it kept crashing. Do you think it has something to do with the RAM I bought or possibly so I have to clean my fan?
If it does the same with the 2x512MB DIMMs, I wouldn't think it's the new memory. Did you unplug anything in the case or anything (stupid, I know. Just have to ask)? Download SpeedFan and see if you're crashing because of CPU heat. Use Prime95 if you need to stress test the CPU.
when my laptop crashes I the part were my RAM is and it so hot that I could actually burn myself. pretty sure it is my CPU heat. I have a feeling that I should clean my fan inside if that's possibly at all
ok take your lap top some ware and get it cleaned sometimes this fixes the heating problems getting out the dirt if that dident work try taking your laptops apart and re applying some thermal compound to the cpu ans heat sink be careful not to put to much
sorry for bump, but just an update that I managed to fix the problem. I had cleaned out my fan and everything is working fine again. thanks for the help guys
