It's slow, ineffective towards infections, and it records your information.

other antiviruses are able to detect malicious files that haven't even been discovered of yet. also, other AVs don't bother you abou stupid shit. You're missing the big picture here, they log your information.

A more legitimate articleset.
Frederick, you're fine with NOD32. There's a new version of AV and Smart Security out of beta (4) if you're looking to upgrade.

| I don't use an AV and I haven't gotten any viruses or spyware. Maybe that's because I don't install everything I find on the Internet.

....or maybe because you have nothing to detect said viruses and/or spyware.

That's fine but I'd suggest, as Karakawe said, to move up to Smart Security also made by ESET (It includes the NOD32 Anti-virus + lots of powerful, yet low resource, modules for internet, email, all around network firewall etc)
Anyways, ever since Norton 2005 rootkit days I think we've all come to realize how bad Symantec is at protecting their clients. They are a virus themselves and fail to admit it. Norton 2009 Gaming Edition was one of THE saddest excuses for a low-resource anti-virus I've ever used. Smart Security suite alone kills N09GE in memory usage, not to mention the NOD32 AV standalone. This is because NOD32, and most of Smart Security aside from their ThreatSense is coded in ASM language.
The only well-done program they have is Symantec Endpoint Protection Corporate (it's known by a lot of other names lol).. It takes up a decent amount of memory, keeps things somewhat 'safe'-er than previous Norton's and has a lot less false positives (but beware turning on "Notify me of alerts" and then googling away LMAO)
In conclusion. Symantec sucks, ESET owns. And just to stir things up, Trend Micro is one of the worst well-rated AV's ever.

What does Symantec have to do with rootkits?
The rootkit were implemented by Sony into their Sony BMG audio disc and it wasn't found out until an engineer name Mark Russinovich discovered it.
During that time all AV software can't remove that damn thing and the only way to get rid of it is to obtain the removal tool from Sony themselves.
Getting that tool was a bitch and some even have their system crashed after running it.
Yeah Norton does suck for us who are technical, but for the computer literate then Norton for them is the best.

No, it's quite possible to keep a system virus/malware-free without AV. SOME exploits and malware via bugs are unavoidable, but they aren't very common, really. (Unless you use IE and don't believe in updates. )

Well in fact i do have ESET sitting at my cupboard when i first installed it my friend told me ESET sucks, but since you told me it's better i'll go re-install it again.
Thanks!
