I own a XP Toshiba laptop and
it had some problems for some reason i turn it on one day and it said
i cant remember its not on me but it said
UNBOOTABLE VOLUME OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
and has a spot code but its a blue screen and it says that any one know how to with this with out the recovery CD?

Use the XP CD and hit "R" when prompted.

I had that once, on this laptop.
It means that your sound driver got corrupted, and you have to reinstall it.
After that, nothing appeared anymore. :]

I had that once, on my old Toshiba Tecra M2 device
I can't say for sure what's happened to your drive, but
My boot sector was corrupted. I could recover my files using slax.

That doesn't sound right. The MBR or Partition Table may be fucked in this case. I don't know where sound is coming from.

If the MBR is the offender here, you can fix it with your system's disc.
Boot into a recovery console and use:
FIXMBR
FIXBOOT
If shit's going down in the disk itself, a chkdsk /r should flag the fucked sectors.

As in, parts of my hard drive physically got screwed, and the xp/repair/ghost CD could no longer recognize the hard drive as a drive (I don't know how this works) and partition magic reports write errors... so nothing but linux could mount a drive with an unknown drive type :\
A hard drive replacement was required. Did the post starter get a new one?
p.s. even that vista key site license I have is no big deal...

Seems like you're talking about an OS install disk. Go on Amazon or somewhere for a SP2/3 XP Pro CD or something, getting it for free is not legal.

Am i not correct but doesn't Toshiba give out recovery disks out when you buy the laptop. I had a EMachines B4 and they gave me a recovery CD and if i lose it call them up and they give me another one for like $20 >.>.

lol toshiba gave me two recovery DVDs - xp pro for two different languages, then a fresh xp SP1 and a drivers CD
but that's me, not the OP
