It could be a virus that wiped out some file needed for "GEORGE" to log in
like yuki suggested, a format would be the best

If you can access system restore then doing is a system restore is suggested. However a reformatt is needed if you can not access system restore.

A reformat/reinstallation is not necessary.
Just put in the install disk, and start a command prompt > "chkdsk /f".

Major problem, CD drive DOESNT SPIN!

It hasn't for about a month, I haven't been bothered to replace it

Can I do it from a USB?

I don't see why not, so long as your computer can boot from USB and your USB drive/device is large enough to hold the disk contents.
Just use something from this search, that should be fine.
