To get familiar with how ASM works and how I can use it to hacks games, I decided to work with an old-fashioned game. While networking using a IPX connection I use Cheat Engine to scan for heath/ammo/etc; however, after I had found the address and froze/changed the value the game would continue to run normally for about the first five minutes. Then the game would crash kicking both me and my friend out of the game. My thinking is because I changed the way my client handles damage/ammo and my friend's has the original opcodes it's causing an internal error between our clients because there is no mutual server to reference from. Now instead I am trying to allow single-player cheat codes to be able to be run inside of a multiplayer game. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about doing this, or if anyone has any suggestions regarding my original problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it is an 8-bit game, but let me double check.
