What's the difference between http://www.cheatengine.org/forums and http://forum.cheatengine.org? And how do I add something like a forum before the actual site name?

something.mywebsite.com

the forum.cheatnengine.org is a subdomain (i'm pretty sure the name is). The <url>/forums is just a folder within the main htdocs or public_html [root folder].

Subdomains (like the forum in forum.cheatengine.org) are just like normal domains, except they are handled by the name servers responsible for the domain: for cheatengine.org, when you go to forum.cheatengine.org your browser goes to the DNS server you are configured for, "who is responsible for the cheatengine.org domain name?", and it gets back dns1.name-services.com. Then it asks dns1.name-services.com about forum.cheatengine.org, and gets back the IP.

depends what your host lets you do, or uses.

For me its like this.

I have ftp access to my domain, and i have a control panel in my hosting account

in my hosting account control panel theres an option to add sub domains, which will basically add whatever name you like to the front of your original domain name, like mysite.com would be subdomain.mysite.com

You can create as many sub domains as your host will allow, my host lets me have 5, thats 5 with my domain name, or 5 with its own domain name or a combination of both.

If you have ftp access just create a folder before the www directory, or if you only have root access then create it at root.

Example, your website would be

htdocs/www/mydomain.com/

or

/mydomain.com/

create a folder at before htdocs (i think) or if you only have root access, create another folder then name it something like

/subdomain.mydomain.com/

Then to access it you would just type http://subdomain.mydomain.com

I feared that it had to be done through the hoster's permission. Thanks for the reply.

I use HTML and PHP to create my site and therefore is indirectly related and I can make the site (probably better than you can judging by your grammar). I asked what sub-domains were not if I needed to help with making a site.

Why I said what I said? By saying, "if u need help at making sites", it implies that I am incapable of creating a website in which I am not.
