OK, its a little long, sorry. I have an alienware laptop, its about 2 years old, but its a little beat up because i truck it back and forth betwen my mom and my dads house. I tried to use our giant flat screen tv as a monitor. There was only a blue color coming out, i could see what i was doing, but everything was in a shade of blue. I have to use a piece that changes the type of cord, because my computer uses a different cable than the tv does. I was a little dissapointed so i tried it on a normal monitor and got the same deal, only shades of blue. Is there some way to test if the problem is with my computer or the cord??? I also have an old TV that isn't HD. It has the yellow red and white ports, a S-video port, and an ethernet port that is called "Digital Interface". My computer has an S-Video port, as well as ethernet. Can that TV be used as a monitor (I dont have the cables otherwise i would just test it)

While yes, most monitors are multi-functional, it's often not worth buying the cable for one, depending on its max resolution. If it's not high enough, the display'll look like shit..

my computer has a digital cord (white, has a symbol like an arrow on it), the monitor has the other kind (blue, has the square on it representing the monitor)

DVI>VGA
Does it look like this

DVI supports up to 2560*1600, High Definition but the VGA doesn't.
Is your laptop High Definition?
Does it have a HDMI port.
Can you link us to your Laptop model. e.g NewEgg...
