So recently I've downloaded a few shows that are in .MKV and .OGM format. I can play these files fine in VLC/MPC but if I try to stream them (To my XBox 360 via TVersity) or if I try to convert them to .AVI format, my computer just shuts off. I also have to reset my surge protector every time it shuts off.
My question is, does anyone know what could be the problem?
I've tried uninstalling every single codec pack I have on my computer then rebooting and reinstalling then rebooting again but that didn't work.
Specs:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
1GB of RAM (2 512MB sticks)

| Since you're using MPC and have the external codecs for both types of files, I'll assume you installed K-Lite or equivalent codec pack? I don't know how streaming works to the 360 (not a huge console-gamer), but googling something along the lines of, "stream mkv to xbox 360" gave me quite a few hits you'd probably find useful. As to the problem with your computer turning off, what converter are you using? It's either that or something in your Windows installation is fucked up..

Yes, I'm using the K-Light Mega pack or whatever it is called. I can get the streaming to work for about 10minutes then it shuts off.
I was using AllToAVI.
To make it clear though, I can stream for a short period of time then my computer shuts off. I can play them perfectly fine in VLC and MPC without a shut off. But I also get the shut off when I tried converting the files to AVI.

I can't really think of what could be going wrong. Does the computer restart when you're doing anything besides reencoding or streaming?
Sounds like it's time for a reinstallation of Windows. D:

It doesn't restart, it just shuts off but it only happens when I try to stream or re-encode .MKV and .OGM files. Those are the only times I have this problem.

if it happens while you're encoding it's probably because your p4 can't handle it and is either overheating or doesn't have enough volts.

try converting the shows to avi using total video converter, ive never had a problem converting any videos on my p4 with it.
if it doesnt convert with its built in codecs you can tell it to use your codecs installed on the pc.
if the pc still crashs then try this in safe mode just to be sure that it is defently overheating and not just a conflict with software + hardware.

I haven't tried TVC yet but I've noticed that if I re-encode the files one by one it doesn't shutdown. :?

encoding is very CPU intense.
trying to do 2 or more at a time on a single core processor would be massive stress on your CPU.

No, you misunderstood I mean I can't load a folder of files into the program to be batch re-encoded. I have to place a file to be re-encoded then wait for it to be done then place another one, and so on.
