GTA IV is badly coded all around, it's not a good idea to base your buying decision on that game.

The game is poorly coded, and current system can be playable at medium settings. High Settings is reserved for future systems according to a site.
Hope their patch fixes it.

I tested an ati 4850 and it ran pretty good at 1280x1024 but it was a bit choppy

betta watch out for that game, its min reqs is

On what settings, even a gtx 280 run barly on high, or atleast with 30-60fps.

I got Ati HD4850 (pretty popular) and it works great. 990X1440 screen
resolution btw.

With stock clock (625MHz) and default settings, I get about 35-40fps with my 4850. (E8400)

I'm running it with textures on high, render quality on highest, and most of the sliders up. (keep in mind, you pretty much only have to go past 20 on the sliders to go past the quality that was on the consoles).
Q6600 @ 3ghz
4gb ram
GTX 260
I'd like performance to be higher yet, but it's generally very smooth on this setup, and I'm hopefully it will be further addressed in drivers, and patches.
I know someone with a 4850 and they are playing it, so eh.
Yes, your computer will die if you try, and crank absolutely everything. Especially the shadows slider.
