can somebody explain radeon graphics cards to me? like i understand nvidia. like which is higher then the other. Like how a 8800gt is better than a 9600gt.

is there like a chart or something like this one except for radeon.

How many times do we have to re-post this?

I'll use the 8800GT as an example.

The first 8 is the generation.
The second 8 (8800) denotes the performance level of the card. It is in the gamer section or designed for enthusiasts.
The next 2 zeros don't mean much in this example.
The suffix, GT/GS/GTX/GTS/GSO/Ultra, etc. means the performance within the performance level, if you get it. For 8800 cards, it's: Ultra > GTX > GTS > GT > GS.

So, a high-performance older card, might be faster than a "mainstream" newer card.

LOL, didn't read it right. Almost the same thing for Radeon cards, just implemented differently.

HD 4xxx is the generation.
HD x8xx is the performance level
HD xx5x is the performance level within the performance level.

Also, you might encounter other suffixes, like Pro and what not.

superweapons, I think he asked for the explanation on ATi cards.
Similarly to NVidia cards, in a radeon 4850, the 4xxx is the line (of course). The x8xx denotes levels of power (3<5<6<8<9). The 30/50/70 is the performance within the technology group (not completely sure about differences here, someone full this in?).
People would consider the 4850, 4870, 4850x2 (crossfire or dual gpu), and 4870x2 (same), high-performance products.

Thanks guys, i was just trying learn it. But also like how NVidia goes into like the 9000 yet like Radeon has 4000. I know that has no difference ever but whatever thanks again.
