Say you upgraded from 512 MB to 2 gigs.

Would it run faster?
Would it look better?

RAM

if you had a computer with 512mb RAM to start off with these days, it wouldn't be very good for playing games - graphics and cpu wouldn't be as good. from 512mb to 2 gigs you would notice a difference, but the look of the game would depend on the gpu.

i had 512mb to start off with my laptop, and it couldn't handle vista. i added just 1gb and it runs it smoothly.

So you're saying it would make it run faster?

(This is my issue with a game :/ )

yes, it will improve the speed of the game. However, it's not too noticeable. If you're wanting a larger effect, upgrade your processor or video card.

If you don't have enough RAM dedicated to a game, your system will have to use hard drive page file, which features extremely high latency, so your overall game will slow to a crawl. So yes, your games will most likely speed up.

If you want to make your games look "better", get a better performing video card, and ramp up the settings. RAM won't affect this.

Your FPS won't improve, it will just be smoother if you're RAM starved

512MB isn't even enough for me to keep all of my programs open.

Upgrade to 2GB and you'll feel the difference.

If you're running on an IGP you can give it more VRAM as well without sacrificing computer performance.

Could be a win-win situation.

RAM wont make a difference i think. Graphic card will make a difference if you don't have an inbuilt graphic card.

Use Everest Home Edition [found in the sticky] to check your motherboard out. It'll tell you what slots you have n shit.

If you have a IGP, buy more ram and dedicate more memory for it.

gaming 2gb... if you need 6+ gb, you need new processor or u waste ram alot
and btw, graphichs card uses 128+ mb... so if u have 512, u can only use 384mb or less depending on your graphics card... always buy about 300+ mb more then you will need

i'm guessing you don't know the difference between shared and dedicated memory?
