it is possable with brute force or dictonary attack but it is really pointless since the chances of cracking it are slim and if you dont know how many characters are in the password brute force could take way too long.

Brute-Force (Symbols, characters, numbers) will take months, if you have some clues about the PW (Eg, the PW is numbers ONLY), then brute force from all combinations (which there's no end).

Most of the time people use stupid passwords, so you can get a list of the 100 most common passwords and use that...

Brutus... Google around for that brute forcer.

brutus is not used for cracking archives, its more for online password cracking.

you can download brutus tho to generate a word list and then use that list with an rar password cracker to get the password.

you still need to know how many characters might be in the password and if it uses alpha, numerics and symbols..

edit: i guess not brutus doesnt seem to be working for me to creat a word list... it sux dont use it.

if any of you know where to get a good word list generator let me know, preferably a multi threading program.

Simply put it is impossible. The reason is for even just a three word pass, you have to try 26 different characters combinations and that only of alphabetic characters. The combination of numeric and other characters really make it impossible(even if pass is just small like 6 chars). Theoretically it can be possible in zillion years Razz

but practically no way. Don't ever think about it.

You can use Brute-force, a Dictionary Attack, or a "Booost-Up" mode. I think the program is called WinRAR Password Remover even though it doesn't actually "remove" the password, it just finds out what the password is. It's capable of 3000 passwords per second in brute-force, and 22,000 passwords per second in "Booost-Up" mode.

There is a bruter/cracker for winzip & rar that does index or brute.
But if the password is in combination and over 6 characters long it could take years to get a working password.
Anything over 6 chars will be basically endless.
You can try it, by putting in on a spare pc and let it sit a brute on it long as you want.

But to test how good it works. Just password a rar file your self with 3 to 6 characters and try it. You will see what we mean by how long it takes to crack it , if it ever does.

Hey since you guys were willing to find the pass to that file can you give mine a shot? I've been trying to figure out the pass for days with no luck even with password recovery programs
