But is there really a noticeable difference between 4 and 8? |
if you're using more than 4 yea...
if you got 4gb and you're using 2gb, whether you got 2gb or 6gb free RAM the computer will act the same.

What did you pay for it?
And what you do with it, are you really needing 8gb ram?
I use 2gb on my xp machine and its more then enought.
I got a vista machine with 4gb (also tried with 8gb but no difference).
I got exactly same CPU but 4870x2 instead thats alot better.
And then on my xp machine 2x 8800GT overclocked to 750mHz.

Run normal everyday apps then you will see no difference between 4GB and 8GB. Run a professional program and you will need 4, 8 or even more.
Have you ever tried to open up a 2GB raw image with photochop?
If no, then try it and watch your system beg for more ram.

Yes I have, and no still no problems.
I don't use much ram with xp.
