Well, I just got my new laptop so I got a router to get a connection, so would it be possible to switch from a USB cable to ethernet without having to call Rogers?

yes lol. if you're router is set up correctly and runs fine with the USB cable, then simply replacing the USB cable (don't leave it in) with the ethernet cable would get you connected straight away.
